Nordic Solar has unique experience in a young industry
In 2009, a visionary innovator and entrepreneur from Värmland looked to the power source in the sky. Confident in the future need for fossil-free solar energy, he founded Nordic Solar. Since then, the demand for solar solutions has risen sharply year after year.

In 2023, Nordic Solar’s founder, Daniel Gruvborg, passed the leadership baton to Frida Johansson, who now serves as the company’s CEO.
“Since our inception, we’ve installed over 100,000 kilowatts (kW) of solar power,” Johansson explains. “The depth of experience and expertise within Nordic Solar is unique in an industry still considered relatively young.”
Many competitors are just beginning to establish themselves.
“Data from the Swedish Tax Agency show that in just two and a half years, the number of companies that work with solar energy in various ways has increased from 300 to 1,200."

"Our overarching goal is to drive and accelerate the green transition"
Nordic Solar has built a diverse customer base that includes homeowners, businesses, public institutions, commercial property owners, farmers, and industrial enterprises exploring new opportunities in renewable energy.
“More and more, solar panels are being incorporated at the design stage of new buildings. We participate in both small- and large-scale projects where long-term sustainability is a critical factor.”
Proud of its local roots, Nordic Solar maintains a strong connection to Värmland, with operations and staff split between Töcksfors, near the Norwegian border, and Karlstad, strategically located between Oslo and Stockholm.
Recently, the company constructed Värmland’s largest solar park at the Rottneros pulp mill in Sunne. This facility, built on a repurposed landfill, is primarily supplying the mill with locally generated solar electricity.
“Our overarching goal is to drive and accelerate the green transition. This project is a prime example of that mission. While we began as a solar energy company, we’re evolving into a comprehensive energy provider by integrating energy storage and additional services into our portfolio.”

"The EU directive sends a clear message"
The industry is closely watching the EU Solar Standard directive, known as “Solklart” in Sweden. This new regulation mandates the installation of solar panels on buildings according to a phased schedule:
2026: All new commercial and public buildings.
2027: Existing commercial and public buildings undergoing renovations suitable for solar installations.
2029: All new residential buildings.
2030: All existing public buildings.
“This EU directive sends a clear message to the market and property owners across Europe,” Johansson remarks. “Solar energy is set to play a pivotal role in the green transition.”
