"We are happy to share knowledge and experience with each other"

Nords International AB stands as Northern Europe’s leading manufacturer of stainless steel threaded fittings, pressed collars, and pipe clamps. The factory in Molkom, just a short drive north of Karlstad, is one of several globally active companies in the area. CEO Simon Hedberg is continually impressed by the expertise and deep commitment that define the vibrant business environment of this small town.

“It’s both valuable and inspiring to be part of a community where so many companies, each a market leader in its niche, operate side by side,” says Hedberg. “There’s a long industrial tradition here, coupled with a strong sense of dedication.”

Nords’ roots trace back to 1904, when a local entrepreneur sought to address the severe road wear of the time. He established a factory that produced a wider type of wagon wheel, which soon became Sweden’s new standard.

“That innovative spirit began 120 years ago and continues to drive us today. Over the decades, the company has adapted to changing times, survived two world wars, and navigated economic fluctuations by engaging employees in continuous development. Nords has always invested with an eye on the future.”

In the 1940s, Nords expanded into central heating systems and industrial pipe fittings.

“That´s when the foundation of the expertise that underpins the company’s operations today was built."

Core expertise in CNC machining of stainless steel

Over the years, Nords has been part of major industrial groups, including Uddeholm, Avesta, and Outokumpu. Since 2014, however, the company has returned to its roots as a family-owned business, now led by Simon Hedberg and his brother, Anton Vestman, who serves as Technical and Procurement Manager. The group also includes manufacturing units in Helsinki and Tallinn. The company’s core expertise lies in CNC machining of stainless steel and other high-alloy materials, with products sold globally.

“The demand for stainless steel is rising as sustainability standards increase and industrial processes require higher temperatures and pressures. Our products are essential for handling media like pharmaceuticals, gases, liquids, and powders in pipelines or containers.”

"The creativity within Värmland’s industrial sector is remarkable"

For Simon Hedberg and his family, who previously had no ties to the region, Värmland has been a positive experience.

“The creativity within Värmland’s industrial sector is remarkable. Every day, I encounter examples of incredible determination and a strong willingness to tackle challenges. It’s an environment I truly enjoy—a sense of progress and achievement is a significant motivator for me.”

He also mentions the cooperation and networks that characterize the business community in Värmland.

“Competition between companies here is less pronounced than in other places. We’re eager to share knowledge and experiences. When one company succeeds, it creates synergies that benefit others.”

Focus on sustainable growth

Nords is focused on sustainable growth to maintain its competitive edge. Hedberg sees significant opportunities in further expanding the company’s work with customized products and solutions.

“We’ll continue to recruit skilled CNC operators, who are the backbone of our operations. Additionally, we need to enhance our internal digital capabilities and optimize our processes. This includes expertise in IT systems, technology, logistics, and administration.”

The future is a topic of active discussion at all levels of the organization.

“Development is driven by leveraging the competence and engagement of our employees. Everyone is involved in shaping our strategy and its execution. We maintain a flat organizational structure, giving individuals the chance to grow into new roles.”
